It is so hard when you can't wear your style to your workplace! Especially for someone who views fashion as a self expression. Although my office is a place were you can dress up, but at the same time it can stress you out, as it is very formal and conservative. So, it is really boring and restricting for someone who considers fashion to be liberating. Every day I have this dilemma of what to wear or better to say what not to wear?! The thing is that I can never plan my outfit one day before to save time, as most of my good friends do, because, since it is a self expression, it has to be spur of the moment, which makes it even harder! Well, I had to do something about it! I know that there are really more serious problems in the world and in my life as well, but this little silly problem is something that I have to face almost every single morning and it affects the rest of my day! Moreover, it can be something fun instead of being a problem if it was done right, right?1:-)
SO, the first trick is to play with accessories. I keep it professional by wearing mostly suits, but I add a twist to my outfit by carrying an "It" blocked color bag or a funky pair of shoes...Well, shoes are my thing really. I just can't get enough of them! Also, you can always play with jewelry or add a nice design scarf to your plain simple white chemise.
The second, it is to wear either blocked color jacket or trouser. Although it is very trendy this season to wear the whole suit in one blocked color , but I think that not everyone can pull it off, so I just like to keep it clean and simple. Well, unless someone got me a Salvatore Ferragamo red stripped suit, then I would definitely re-consider!;-) Also, you can wear jackets with nice patterns based on the trend for that season. For example, A/W 2011/12 was all about snake patterns, so I bought this snake pattern jacket from Zara (see below), which was really handy. Usually such trends, fade away fast , so I prefer to buy them from high street brands as opposed to high end brands, or I buy designers' clothes on discount or from outlets, because otherwise it is not really worth it, in my opinion, no matter how beautiful they are and how much you love fashion, the best way to go about it is to be moderate then to go overboard by obsessing about it. It is supposed to be fun and creative, not a vice! So I follow the "value per consumption"rule as I call it; I might pay more for classic timeless pieces and less for temporary trends. Although, I usually do a lot of recycling as I believe it is not what you wear, but how you wear it. You can also wear a neutral color jackets with asymmetrical hemlines, I bought a nice monochrome asymmetrical jacket from forever21(see below), which was a really good buy as it it was very cheap and looked expensive, and another black one from Reiss, which is one of my favorite high street shops and especially for my work wardrobe.

Third, I came up with a weekly casual day. Well, there is nothing like that at my work, but it is just a day for me to wear something less formal and more comfortable, more my style, just to break the routine of the week and to get to wear some of my favorite pieces that I always buy at a bargain prices. Like the other day, I wore a skinny velvet navy pant from Topshop, a Marc by Marc Jacob cardigan ( navy and blue), white crispy chemise and yellow suede laced ankle boots, and dressed it up with a burgundy Louis Vuitton bag. That felt really cool! :-)
That's my first blog ever, so I think I have done well for a starter! Don't you think? :-) Let me know your views?

I totaly agree about buying high street brands for a cheaper price on trends
ReplyDeleteAnd leave the big budget to shoes, bags, maybe coats and shoes again:)
It's a nice idea to have a day off work to show your way of getting dressed and comfy...I wish I can do that! But my job is about black, black and black outfits with black boring shoes:zany ideas?
Nice blog;)
I agree that it was a very good start to the blog! Looking forward to more such tips - very useful, and very cool to be able to think about fashion in such a way...
